pFieldComm Multi-protocol Converter For SCADA

1. Introduction
In one automation system, such as a SCADA system , there always exists many kinds of devices from different vendors. For a dedicated HMI system, it is difficult to communicate with all related devices because of the variety protocol.
PFieldComm is a gateway to inter-connect such I/O devices, it can converter one or more protocols (input channels ) to other protocols (output channels, such as modbus, OPC Server, ect. ) simultaneous and automatically.
PFieldComm is compatible with many kinds of popular RTU, PLC, Controllers, DCS from different vendors, such as Siemens, Mitsubishi, Scheneider, ABB, Rock-Well, Honeywell, TAC, OMRON, ect , see details in appendix A.
2. Features
PFieldComm can convert any serial port device protocols, Ethernet device protocols, Fieldbus device protocols(CAN,Profibus, Lonworks, DH+, ect. ) to each other.
2.1 The theory of pFieldComm
Indeed, pFieldComm is a software which can communicate with input devices and output devices simultaneously.
When pFieldComm communicates with input devices, it will acquire data from devices according a set of predefined data. The predefined data is configured on a remote administration computer by a engineer using a dedicated software called ADMIN.
The address of input device, the number and address of I/O channels is determined by a engineer according to the application situation.
When pFieldComm converts the protocols, it will act as a data server, it responses to the remote master computer, sends data to it or accepts the written back data from master.
The address of pFieldComm, the address map between input devices and output devices, the kind of converted protocol is also determined by a engineer according to the application situation.
Remote master can read/write data from/to pFieldComm.
2.2 Monitoring the communition text
PFieldComm offer a communication text monitor software module, user can easily analyse the protocol and the communication procedure.
2.3 Remote configure and troubleshooting
pFieldComm ADMIN is a dedicated tool to setup pFieldComm under a remote node, it runs under Windows XP operation system,remote node communicates with pFieldComm through TCP/IP, RS232/485.
ADMIN transfers the configured data down into pFieldComm, pFieldComm runs automatically.
PFieldComm communicates with I/O devices and with master computer simultaneously. PFieldComm acquires data from input channel using original protocol, and transfers data to master computer with destination protocol.
The number of original protocols and destination protocols is not restricted.
